Ministry

Agapefest 2010 promises to be the most exciting year ever for Ministry. As we strive to fulfill God’s command to love Him and love others alike, we recognize the strong need to reach out and invite others into a personal relationship not simply but with Him, but with His people. In order to do so our staff has worked diligently to develop new ways of creating such an interaction.

This year officially marks the inclusion of Second Stage speakers, who will address issues primarily directed toward the youth, kicked off by Dirty Roots founder Ryan Mifflin. We also continue to work in partnership with the Interl’inc corporation to provide messages to participating youth leaders.

Throughout the festival, our staff of six will be working to provide a comfortable atmosphere in the Prayer Tent  for you to come and discuss, pray, reflect, or just hang out. This year, we’ll be wearing distinctive “Ministry Staff” t-shirts so that all will know who to approach with questions, concerns, or interests. So please, if you see us, feel free to come up to us and talk, pray, interact, or just wave at us! We can’t wait to meet you! Look below to see what’s going on in the Prayer Tent this year, and who you can plan on seeing:

Prayer Tent Activities

Face-painting: Let’s get creative! We support our brothers and sisters in Christ through their ministry of music. So come on down and get the logo of your favorite band painted on your face, or just come up with a design of your own!
Focused Prayer & Bracelet Making: As we face tragedy throughout the world, we turn to the power of prayer for help. In the Prayer Tent we’ll be offering time to focus on various ministries, including our partner’s organizations as well as others throughout the world. We’ll also be offering time for those who are more experiential in their faith to make bracelets that correspond to the ministry that they would like to pray for (all bracelets are FREE for you to take and remember your experience by).
Speaker Interaction: We would like to offer each of you time to talk, question, or simply hang out with our partners for this year. Come and meet the festival speakers Ben Woods and Mark David Goins, as well as Ryan Mifflin of the Dirty Roots Revolution and Rod Tucker of International Crisis Aid.
Alter Call: After Mark David Goins and Ben Woods’ main message on Friday and Saturday, we will be offering an alter call from the main stage. Volunteers and representatives of the Ministry staff will be available to usher all who are interested to come down to the main stage/Prayer Tent to participate in this event (See below for an approximate time).

What you’re looking forward to most about the festival: Meeting everyone, and face painting in the Prayer Tent! Woohoo!

Your favorite music artist/movie/book: I can’t really play favorites. I truly love Sufjan Stevens, Glen Hansard, and everything that that genre entails. Movies; Forrest Gump all the way, and my favorite book is probably Jumper by Steven Gould.

Most embarrassing moment: Um, I definitely peed in the pool at my grandmother’s retirement home when I was really young… Twice.

****Name: Nicole Graham

Major: Music & Cross Cultural Studies

What you’re looking forward to most about the festival: Meeting all of you! :)   Oh….and Addison Road and Paper Route. But mainly you guys.

Your favorite music artist/movie/book: I’m currently obsessed with Ingrid Michaelson. I’d say my favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s and my favorite books include but are not limited to the Bible, The Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne and The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

Most embarrassing moment: Hm. Well, once I walked into the mens bathroom at our school’s Music Center!

****Name: Jay D. Wilde

Major: Pastoral Ministry

What you’re looking forward to most about the festival: Seeing everyone’s smiling faces and getting the opportunity to worship with thousands of people through music!

Favorite music artist/movie/book: Call me ridiculously old school, but Michael W. Smith. I also love Lord of the Rings – yes I am a nerd!

Most embarrassing moment: I was playing a lead part in a musical and one of the little kids grabbed my hat instead of theirs (they looked the same) and so I ended up having their hat. Without knowing it, I took it with me on stage and when I put it on, the chin strap was super small so I had it in front of my face and had to quick flip it back during a song. It was pretty funny because the hat was so disproportional to my head.

What you’re looking forward to most about the festival: Jammin’ to “love addict” with family force 5

Your favorite music artist/movie/book: Aaron Weiss of MewithoutYou. Little miss sunshine, and The catcher in the rye, JD Salinger, or anything by C.S. Lewis.

What you’re looking forward to most about the festival: I’m looking forward to being able to meet the festival-goers and hopefully, impacting their lives somehow.

Your favorite music artist/movie/book: It’s all crazy! iI’s all false! It’s all a dream! It’s alright by mewithoutYou. My favorite movies are The Dark Knight and Lars and the Real Girl, and my favorite book is Story by Steven James.

Most embarrassing moment: I don’t get embarrassed too much but I threw up once in front of my boyfriend after only six months of dating. That was embarrassing.

****Name: Amy Jo Russell

Major: Social Work

What you’re looking forward to most about the festival: Getting to fellowship with other believers my age and being able to share Christ with them. Oh, and also being able to hear the wonderful lineup we have for this year! :)

Your Favorite music artist/movie/book: My favorite group at the moment would have to be RED; favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice; favorite book is a little book called ‘Promises’ by DC Talk. It’s not a story but it’s just full of scripture that give all of God’s promises throughout the Bible.

Most embarrassing moment: One of my most embarrassing moments would probably have to be when I took my mom with me on a German ski trip and she danced to Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” in the lodge, in front of everybody, with several of my classmates…. yep, that’s my mom!
